I love the thrill of a good find, especially when it’s something unexpected and you just stumble across it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my fair share of disasters, so you do have to keep at it. Here are 5 of my favourite thrifts
The little square side table, £5

Charity shop find, and it’s a proper solid, sturdy little table, not the flimsy flat-pack stuff you’d expect at that price. Exactly the kind of thing that looks like it cost far more than it did.
The glass top side table, free

Found on Facebook Marketplace, which honestly doesn’t get enough credit as a place to find good furniture. People are often just trying to clear space rather than make money, so free or next to nothing pieces turn up more than you’d think.
The Coach tote bag, £112

I use this every single day. I had it authenticated through Vinted before buying, which is worth doing on anything designer, it retails at over £300 new, so getting a genuine one for a third of the price and knowing for certain it’s real makes this one of my best buys.
The bedside cabinet, £10

Not a high-end designer piece by any means, but it didn’t need to be, it’s perfect for a back room and did exactly the job I needed at a fraction of what a new one would cost.
The White Company throw and cushions, £50

The throw alone retails at over £100 in store, so getting the whole set, throw and cushions, for £50 was a proper win. Lovely quality too, exactly the kind of thing that makes a room feel finished.
The bottom line
Looking back at all five, the thing they’ve got in common is that none of them were what I went out looking for that day, they just turned up. A fiver here, free there, and one proper investment piece I knew was worth spending a bit more on because I’d had it checked out first. That’s honestly the whole game with thrifting, you’re not always hunting for something specific, you’re just staying switched on enough to spot it when it crosses your path. So next time you’re in a charity shop, at a car boot, or scrolling Marketplace, or eBay slow down and have a proper look. You never know what’s sitting there waiting to be found.
